BonneyU Launches in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA (July 8, 2021) – Bonney Plumbing, Electrical, Heating and Air, which has been serving the Sacramento area for more than 45-years, has launched BonneyU to train the next generation of plumbing installers and technicians with the opportunity to be hired after completion of the program. BonneyU’s 10-week training program will give students more than 400 hours of hands-on experience.

“There is a need for talented installers and technicians in our industry and we saw an opportunity to encourage people to get involved in the trades and also build Bonney’s future workforce”, said Nick Horn, Chief Operations Officer at Bonney. “Our hope is that students will leave the program ready to join our team and eventually, as the program succeeds, create a talented workforce for other companies in the region.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers is projected to grow 4% from 2019 to 2029. Careers in the industry have competitive salaries, a low barrier to entry (no need to pay for a costly college degree) and the potential for career growth.

“The past year has shown that those who work in the trades are indispensable members of our community – they keep our daily lives afloat,” said Peter Meadows, Human Resources Director at Bonney. “At Bonney we want to ensure that when a technician arrives at a customer’s home they are highly trained and will deliver the best possible service to our customers. We are training the next generation of talented trades workers to keep our community going through good times and bad.”

The first cohort began classes in June at Bonney’s headquarters in Rancho Cordova with traditional classroom instruction as well as hands-on training.  During the accelerated BonneyU program, students will spend 40 hours per week learning in real-life scenarios, taught by Bonney’s industry experts. The program is structured to give students a taste of the variety of environments that a

plumbing installer will be working in and the key tasks and skills that they need to be successful. The aggressive approach allows students to become skilled technicians in less time than a traditional apprenticeship program, which usually takes two years. Because of the fast-tracked nature of the program, BonneyU is ideal for people starting their careers or those who have taken time off or are looking for a career change.

“We are committed to creating a pathway to employment and also encourage people to consider careers in the trades,” said Horn. “With this program, Bonney will not only help build that future workforce but will also continue to have the best-trained heating and air team in the community.”
