Bonney Plumbing Heating and Air believes in the importance of community involvement and giving back to the Sacramento region through its philanthropic endeavors. Bonney has made it a mission since 1978 to partner with charitable organizations that help those in need in our community.

That is why Bonney Plumbing Heating and Air has teamed up with the Honor Group, whose vision is to raise much needed funds to help military veterans return to a normal civilian life. One of the ways they do this is by purchasing life- saving service dogs for veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

According to the Veterans Administration, 834,463 veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars suffer from combat related PTSD-that’s 30%. Overall there are 10.6 million veterans living with combat related PTSD. So far, though, the Department of Veterans Affairs won’t help pay for service dogs for PTSD, citing lack of scientific evidence.  The good news is the Veterans Administration is just now launching a study to find out what effect specially trained service dogs can have on the lives of veterans with PTSD.

The Honor Group has firsthand knowledge of the positive effects a service dog can have on a veteran suffering from PTSD. Service dogs help alleviate the symptoms of PTSD. The Honor Group is stepping up and fulfilling the need for service dogs for military veterans who need them.

Veterans like Tina Banks, who was in the Air Force for three years until she was medically discharged from the military with PTSD. Tina suffered from severe flashbacks, agoraphobia, and had difficulties just leaving her house.

She tried medications to alleviate her symptoms, but none of them worked. That’s when Tina was matched up with a service dog thanks to The Honor Group; a Standard Poodle named Hans.

It’s transformed her life.

Hans has given Tina the freedom she needs. Before she acquired Hans she couldn’t even go to the grocery store due to PTSD. Now she feels comfortable, safe, and secure with her trusty sidekick Hans by her side.

Successful stories like Tina’s and other military veterans are why Bonney Plumbing Heating and Air has partnered with The Honor Group to help our U.S. Servicemen and women who need it most.
